| Description | Sarah Schiewe (pronounced she-ver) creates hand-built stoneware sculptures that turn personal stories into visual metaphors. At the heart of her practice is her work known as Soul Fired, bespoke commissions. I love working with people to uncover the meaningful moments in their lives and transforming them into unique ceramic sculptures that surprise and delight. Each piece is crafted by hand using traditional coiling techniques, then decorated with glazes, oxides, sgraffito, wax resist, and decals. Every sculpture is one-of-a-kind, made with care, curiosity, and creativity. Sarah's profits supports Discover, a free community treasure hunt where miniature ceramic artworks are hidden for people to find and keep — a joyful way to bring art into everyday life. Sarah's journey with ceramics began during her degree, when she first discovered and was inspired by Grayson Perry. In 2014, she was honoured to have afternoon tea with Grayson Perry after winning his Build a Bear competition, and in 2025 she was invited to teach the ceramics summer school at The Wallace Collection, alongside his Delusion of Grandeur exhibition.
Her mission is to bring sculpture directly into our communities and to support local businesses. By sharing and celebrating personal stories through art, her hope is to encourage people to reconnect with each other, with creativity, and with our high streets that deserve to thrive again. |
